Dear 2020 Seniors,

You all really know how to go out with style!!!! Never would I have imagined a situation where schools have to be closed for such a long period of time. I know you all are disappointed about missing so many senior events such as Prom, athletics, Senior skip day, and so many more. As you have figured out, graduation will not take place on the scheduled day in May as was planned. However, I believe each and every one of you deserve a ceremony to celebrate your accomplishments that you have worked so hard to accomplish throughout the last 13 years. We plan to have some sort of formal graduation ceremony once Governor Edwards has lifted the ‘stay at home order’ and the social distancing proclamation. As this point, we cannot say what that date will be. As that date is determined, we will notify you.

We have made a decision about senior grades. All course grades as of March 13, 2020, will be counted as complete if you are satisfied with those grades. We will take the highest 9 weeks grade and that will be the grade that we record in the last nine weeks. We can then average the first semester and second semester grades together for your final grade in each course. You can view your grades in the Claiborne Parish student progress center. IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH YOUR COURSE GRADES, you will have the opportunity to continue to complete work for any particular class that you want to improve your grade through May 5. There is a google doc available for you to reply electronically on the HomerHighPels.com website, or the included paper form can be filled out and returned to the school.

Your choice is very important as your grades and GPA will have an impact on your eligibility of TOPS, TOPS TECH, and other scholarships. Please complete the form, electronically or physically, and return it to the school before April 21, 2020. If this form is not received, your grades will stand as is.

Those of you currently taking Dual Enrollment classes must complete the class as per the University or Technical College to receive college credit. These grades will be posted and added to your transcript once completed and finalized by the University or Technical College.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your principal or counselor as soon as possible.

Congratulations on all your success!!!!!

William Kennedy,
Superintendent

David Robinson

Tara Hollis
